Latvia offers practical aviation programmes taught in English for international students. You can study aerospace engineering, pilot training, and aviation management at several recognised universities.
Aviation programmes and degrees
Universities in Latvia offer both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the aviation sector. You can choose a three-year bachelor programme or a two-year master programme.
- Bachelor degrees focus on engineering, maintenance, or airline management.
- Master programmes build advanced technical or leadership skills.
- Integrated professional pilot training often combines academic study with flight hours.
Entry requirements and English proficiency
To join an aviation course, you need a completed secondary school certificate for bachelor studies or a bachelor degree for master studies. Mathematics and physics grades are usually important.
- Prove your English level with an accepted test like IELTS or TOEFL.
- Pass a medical examination if you choose professional flight training.
- Submit certified transcripts and a motivation letter.
Tuition fees and living costs
Tuition fees vary depending on your nationality and your chosen specialisation. Professional pilot training with flight hours naturally costs more than standard classroom lectures.
- EU students typically pay lower tuition fees than non-EU students.
- Annual tuition fees for aviation programmes generally range from 3,000 to 10,000 euros.
- Living costs in Latvia include accommodation, food, and transport, typically totalling 500 to 800 euros per month.
Visas and residence permits
If you are a non-EU citizen, you need a student visa and a temporary residence permit to study in Latvia. You must apply well before your semester starts.
- Check the official Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs website for exact rules.
- Show proof of sufficient funds to support your stay.
- Secure a place at a university before you start the visa process.
Timeline and application steps
Most universities in Latvia have an autumn intake, and some offer a smaller spring intake. You should start preparing your documents several months ahead.
- Check the university admissions page for exact deadlines.
- Submit your online application and pay any application fees.
- Complete entrance interviews or online tests if the programme requires them.
