Studying in Hungary as a student from Brazil is a clear process if you follow the right steps. You will need to secure university admission first and then apply for a student residence permit through the official consular channels.
Choosing your programme and university
Hungary offers many degree programmes taught in English across fields like medicine, engineering and business. Start by browsing university websites to find a course that matches your background and career goals. Check the programme page for specific entry criteria, tuition fees and application cycles.
- Look for programmes that match your previous education level.
- Note the language requirements, usually proven by an English test.
- Check if you need to pass an entrance exam or an interview.
Academic requirements for Brazilian applicants
Universities in Hungary will ask for proof of your previous studies. If you apply for a bachelor degree, you need your high school diploma and transcripts. For a master degree, you need your university diploma and complete grade records.
- Get your Brazilian school documents officially translated into English or Hungarian.
- Check if your certificates need an apostille stamp for international recognition.
- Provide a CV and a motivation letter explaining why you want to study in Hungary.
Language proficiency and proof of funds
Most English-taught programmes require a recognized language certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL. You must also prove that you can support yourself financially during your stay. Check the national immigration authority website for the exact minimum amount required for living costs.
- Take an accepted English test well before the application deadline.
- Prepare bank statements or scholarship letters as proof of funds.
- Ensure your funds cover both tuition and monthly living expenses.
The visa and residence permit timeline
The entire process takes several months from start to finish. You should begin preparing your documents at least six to nine months before your semester starts. Once the university accepts you and you pay your fees, you can book your visa appointment at the Hungarian consulate in Brazil.
- Application deadlines for autumn intake typically fall between May and July.
- Consular visa processing can take up to 60 days, so apply early.
- Do not book non-refundable flights until your residence permit is approved.
Common reasons for visa refusal
Visa applications can be delayed or rejected if details are missing. Always double-check your paperwork against the official checklist from the embassy. Common issues include incomplete financial proof, missing document translations or errors in your travel insurance.
- Ensure your passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay.
- Provide clear, verifiable bank records showing steady funds.
- Submit a complete accommodation proof or university dorm confirmation.
