Lithuania is becoming a popular place to study aviation in Europe thanks to modern training centres and English-taught programmes. You can earn a degree in pilot training, aeronautical engineering or aviation management. This guide covers what you need to know about getting started.
Aviation programmes and levels
Lithuanian universities and specialised flight schools offer different paths depending on your career goals. You can choose from undergraduate and postgraduate options:
- Bachelor degrees in aeronautical engineering or aviation management.
- Integrated commercial pilot training leading to an ATPL frozen license.
- Master degrees for advanced management and technical roles.
Pilot training combines academic studies with practical flight hours. Check the programme page for exact flight hour totals.
Entry requirements and English
To join an aviation programme, you must meet basic academic and language standards. Universities usually look for these documents:
- Secondary school certificate for bachelor studies or a bachelor degree for master studies.
- Good grades in mathematics and physics.
- English language certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL showing upper-intermediate level.
- Class 1 medical certificate for pilot training students.
Always verify the specific admission requirements directly on the university admissions page before you apply.
Tuition fees for EU and non-EU students
Tuition fees in Lithuania vary depending on whether you are an EU citizen and whether your course includes flight training. General academic degrees are more affordable than flight programmes:
- EU students typically pay lower tuition for academic bachelor and master courses.
- Non-EU students pay higher rates for standard academic programmes.
- Flight training involves extra costs for aircraft hours, fuel and simulators.
Check the scholarship section of the university site to see if financial aid is available for international students.
Living costs in Lithuania
Lithuania offers a lower cost of living compared to many Western European countries. As a student, you should budget for the following monthly expenses:
- Student housing in university dormitories or private shared apartments.
- Food, groceries and public transport.
- Study materials and insurance.
Check the national immigration authority website for current proof-of-funds requirements for your student visa or residence permit.
Timeline and application steps
Planning ahead helps you complete all steps on time. Admissions usually follow an annual cycle:
- Research programmes and check deadlines several months before the term starts.
- Prepare your transcripts, English test scores and motivation letter.
- Submit your application through the university portal or national admissions system.
- Apply for your visa or temporary residence permit once you receive an acceptance letter.
Common questions
Do I need to speak Lithuanian to study aviation?
No. Many aviation programmes are taught entirely in English to welcome international students.
Can I work while studying aviation in Lithuania?
International students with a valid residence permit generally have the right to work part-time, but pilot training is very demanding.
How do I get a student visa?
You apply at the Lithuanian embassy or designated visa centre in your home country after receiving your university acceptance letter. Check the official migration website for details.
